Easter Date Calculator

Compute Easter Sunday for any year (Western / Gregorian via the Meeus algorithm), plus related observances.

About the Easter Date Calculator

Enter any year from 1583 onward and OmniWhen returns Easter Sunday using the Anonymous Gregorian (Meeus) algorithm. The result also includes Ash Wednesday (46 days before), Palm Sunday (a week before), Good Friday (two days before) and Pentecost (49 days after).

Useful for planning, historical research, or checking when Easter will fall in coming years.

How it works

OmniWhen uses the Anonymous Gregorian (Meeus / Butcher / Jones) algorithm, which calculates Easter as the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after March 21. The algorithm is valid from 1583 onward (post-Gregorian reform). Related observances are derived: Ash Wednesday is Easter − 46 days, Palm Sunday is Easter − 7, Good Friday is Easter − 2, Pentecost is Easter + 49.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for Orthodox Easter?
No — this is Western (Gregorian) Easter. Orthodox Easter uses the Julian calendar and a different paschal-full-moon definition; the dates often differ by 1–5 weeks.
How early or late can Easter fall?
Between March 22 and April 25. The next March 22 Easter is in 2285; the most recent April 25 was 1943.
Why does the calculator only accept years from 1583?
The Gregorian calendar was introduced in October 1582. Before that, the Julian computus applies and the dates were different.
